Praise for Witch Ways
A young girl's life is changed after she accidentaly burns down her school's science wing. Now, she has a new school, a grandmother she never knew telling her she is a witch, and a hunky senior boy falling for her.
This book includes bits from several genres. There is teen romance, witchcraft, mystery, coming of age, and some humor all thrown into the mix. Amazingly, they all seem to mesh fairly well without any of the elements overpowering the rest. Truthfully, the witchcraft element is the weakest element, I suspect that as the series progresses and the main character accepts her powers theywill become more prominent.
WITCH WAYS was a fun book about a nearly 16 year old girl discovering witchcraft and the fact she had some definite unknown powers going on. Why has her family never mentioned she is a witch from a long line of witches? And did her love spell that she was more or less forced into making by her best friend cause Dylan to fall in love with her by mistake? Did she cause bad things to happen by thinking them? Tied up in personal discovery and forced to start a new school, Evie manages to make new friends and tries to get on the school newspaper. One thing leads to another, and Evie is in the thick of witches, the theater, and a decades old murder mystery.
This book is excellent for the young and young at heart. It is sweet and holds your interest. I am way past the target age, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I gave Witch Ways five stars because the book made me happy! There are serious and sad parts, but even thru sad moments, the book gave me an overall sense of joy for having read it. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a clean read with a bit of drama, teen angst, jealousy... basically a book about teens and their troubles, whether they be real, or in their heads.
A Message from Kristy Tate
If you love Buffy, you'll love Evie. Witch Ways is a coming of age story of a young girl who has to decide whether or not to be a witch. Frankly, it's a decision we all grapple with every day--sometimes many times a day. And while we may not burn down science buildings, we may most certainly feel like we want to. Learning to control our temper and coming to grips with our own personal power--whether to wield it or shield it--are life long struggles. So whether you're young or old or somewhere in between, Witch Ways is a story about all of us.
Interview with Evelyn Marston by Kristy Tate
On what occasion do you lie?
Sometimes I lie to spare another's feelings. Even though there are times when my best friend, Bree, goes bonkers for boys, I keep it to myself because I don't want to hurt her.
What do you most value in your friends?
I really admire the way Josh (and all the Hendersons) look out for each other. They're a large, noisy, family with zero personal space, but they have enough love to overlook the frustrations of living in tight quarters. Plus, their love extends to me, as well.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
I love how Uncle Mitch opened up his home (and his heart) to me. When my mother left, my dad's pain was like a large mountain that he couldn't seem to cross. I always felt that my company was tolerated but not really enjoyed. I never felt that way with Uncle Mitch. As distracted as he was--and can be--with all his scientific experiments, he always made me feel as if I was the most interesting thing in his life.
When and where were you happiest?
The days when my parents were still together, when we were a complete family of three, before the fighting, back when life was as simple as a bedtime story that always included a happy ending.
